French Fridays with Dorie - garlicky crumb-coated broccoli

This is it...this is all you get this week!  I'll be making this dish on Sunday...just couldn't get to it this week.  Why is it when we have the really easy dishes (like they take 5 minutes)...I have trouble getting to them?  Well, I have a good excuse reason this week, my fellow Doristas.  After Vegas (which was an amazing amount of fun...but unfortunately I have to invoke what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas...to protect the innocent and not so innocent...but I will say ladies, if you have the chance to see Thunder from Down Under...don't miss it!), I started a sugar busters cleanse.  With all the cooking and eating and cooking and eating and working and stressing, my body needs a little tender loving care.  So, I'm taking a break from eating (just doing shakes and bars) for a bit.  Which means I'm not that inclined to cook anything (even for my poor starving boys), including broccoli coated in bread crumbs, garlic and butter!  Next week I'll be back to eating a healthy dinner, so I'll be able to cook again.  Now, don't feel sorry for me...I did this to myself!!

On a side note, I do have a pork loin brining, which I will be smoking on Sunday (on a smoker, not rolled in paper) and making canadian bacon for charcutepalooza, which I will be posting about on the 15th.

This dish is so yummy! I'm excited for you to try it. You won't even feel bad about the butter in the dish because it's in there with broccoli!

Oh, Steph! Good luck with your "good behavior" - you do realize that next week's recipes is Eclairs, right? :-)
It sounds like your trip to Vegas was just what you needed...

Glad you had such a wonderful trip...I've eaten a lot of cookie dough, so may be up for a cleanse after the eclairs :)

Yes...after lots of desserts this week at our house we actually looked forward to this broccoli recipe...it's good and quick and gives a healthy feeling...not that I want to leave sugar alone for too long.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Vegas! I also skipped this one. I am visiting my daughter for the week-end. I do plan to make this one, maybe next week.

Mmmm...canadian bacon! What a cute post, Steph! I am so glad you had a great time in Vegas and your sugar detox sounds like something I need to do!

Good luck with the cleansing. The broccoli will be a good segue into back into eating real food. It's pseudohealthy if you don't think too much about the delicious buttery breadcrumbs.

Hey Steph, I'm doing the same thing: cooking broccoli on Sunday. Thank you for the lovely broccoli photo. Can't wait to see the Canadian bacon! That is a favorite around here!

I have never been in Vegas..I think I would rather have adventures in Vegas than be at home eating broccoli! You will love it when you try it.

Your posts always make me laugh! A combination of making me feel better (I don't know why I can't get something easy completed), as well as not better - I still don't know how you do it all! Glad you had a great time in Vegas. I'm sure all of your pork-goodness will be wonderful too!

I'm on day 6 of the 21 day Clean detox program. I'm having juices for breakfast and dinner and a solid meal for lunch. I cooked this broccoli last night [made substitutions to make it detox friendly], enjoyed it for lunch today with half a chicken breast.

Good for you ! I should definitely be doing the same...yet instead I am salivating over the eclairs for next week. Nana and I are scared not only that they will be complicated...but that they may NOT be complicated and will be a horrible new temptation in the kitchen :) Also, while Nana got her broccoli cooked early in the week...I was stopping at the grocery store on Friday after work (in the rain, cursing myself) and praying that the dish would be easy. You are going to LOVE it.
